We are a global biopharmaceutical company with two commercial products, Visudyne® and Eligard®, which were derived from our two unique technology platforms, photodynamic therapy and Atrigel®. Our research and development efforts are focused on pharmaceutical products in the fields of ophthalmology and dermatology. Since our acquisition of ForSight Newco II, Inc. (now QLT Plug Delivery, Inc.) on October 18, 2007, we are also developing an ocular punctal plug drug delivery system. QLT was formed in 1981 under the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada. Our first commercial product was in the field of photodynamic therapy, or “PDT,” which uses photosensitizers (light activated drugs) in the treatment of disease. Our commercial product, Visudyne, utilizes PDT to treat the eye disease known as wet age related macular degeneration, or “wet AMD,” the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 55 in North America and Europe.
